Laminated Asphalt Shingle Products

These are the laminated asphalt shingle product lines we prefer to use on most sloped residential roof replacements. We can source other brands when a project calls for it, but IKO Cambridge, Dynasty, Designer shingles, and matching hip and ridge products are our usual starting point.

This is a supporting product page, not a sales-intent page. It explains what we usually choose, why we choose it, and how the different laminated shingle lines fit into a complete roofing system.

Preferred Shingle Family

Why these are the laminated shingles we usually start with.

We do not treat shingles as a loose product picked in isolation. The shingle line has to work with the underlayment, starter, ice and water shield, flashing, ventilation, hip and ridge caps, and the actual roof design. IKO gives us a practical product ladder for most residential roofs: Cambridge for standard architectural installs, Dynasty for a stronger performance-focused option, and Designer shingles for roofs where profile and appearance matter more.

01

Good default options

Cambridge and Dynasty cover most normal residential laminated shingle installations without making every roof more complicated than it needs to be.

02

Clear upgrade path

Homeowners can compare a practical architectural shingle, a stronger performance shingle, and a designer-profile shingle without jumping between unrelated brands.

03

Better system consistency

Matching starter, hip and ridge, underlayment, and accessory choices are easier to plan when the roof is built as one complete system.

04

Other brands are still available

This is our preferred product family, not a hard limitation. If a homeowner, builder, designer, or scope calls for another brand, we can discuss it.

IKO Laminated Shingle Lines

Cambridge, Dynasty, and Designer shingles each have a different purpose.

The right product depends on the home, roof shape, exposure, budget, colour preference, and how much visual weight the roof has from the street.

Preferred performance upgrade

IKO Dynasty

Dynasty is the performance-focused laminated shingle line we usually prefer when a homeowner wants a stronger step up from the baseline architectural shingle. It keeps the familiar laminated shingle look but adds stronger fastening confidence and richer colour options.

Best fit Most homeowners who want our preferred shingle upgrade without moving into designer-profile pricing.

IKO Designer Lines

Designer shingles are for roofs where the roof itself is a major part of the home’s appearance. They are not necessary for every replacement, but they can be the right fit when a home needs a heavier shake, slate, or estate-style profile.

Crowne Slate

Slate-inspired profile for homes where a bold, premium roof appearance is part of the design.

Armourshake

Shake-inspired dimensional profile with a heavier roofline appearance.

Royal Estate

Deep-shadow, estate-style profile for a more distinctive laminated asphalt shingle roof.

Hip & Ridge Products

Roofline finishing matters.

Hips and ridges are some of the most visible and exposed parts of the roof. We prefer purpose-made hip and ridge products instead of treating the roofline as an afterthought.

01

IKO Hip & Ridge 12

A practical cap shingle option for finishing hips and ridges cleanly on many laminated shingle installs.

02

IKO Hip & Ridge Class 4

A higher impact-rated cap option for projects where the selected roof system and availability make it appropriate.

03

IKO UltraHP High Profile Ridge

A high-profile ridge cap option for a more dimensional and pronounced roofline finish.

04

Accessory matching

Starter, underlayment, hip and ridge caps, and field shingles should be planned together as one system.

Complete Roof System

Shingles are only one part of the finished roof.

The visible laminated shingle matters, but the long-term roof depends on the system underneath and around it: deck condition, ice and water shield, synthetic underlayment, starter, ventilation, flashing, valleys, drip edge, gutter apron, and properly finished hips and ridges.
